Control System Design

Background of the organization

I would like to introduce the Soloop team with whom I worked before. The Soloop Team is an internal team within Oppo, a renowned smartphone manufacturer. They are responsible for developing and maintaining the Soloop video editing app, which comes pre-installed on Oppo smartphones. Soloop is designed to provide users with a user-friendly and feature-rich video editing experience. The main goal of the Soloop Team is to continually enhance and optimize the app's functionality to meet users' evolving needs and expectations. They are tasked with improving the app's editing capabilities, user interface, and performance to ensure it remains a top-choice video editing tool for Oppo smartphone users. The team's projects involve regularly releasing updates with new features, bug fixes, and performance improvements to keep the app competitive in the mobile video editing market.

Output control

Output control would be suitable for the Soloop Team to measure and manage their performance based on specific metrics related to app usage and user satisfaction. They could set key performance indicators (KPIs) such as the number of active users, user engagement metrics (e.g., average time spent on editing, the number of videos created per user), and app store ratings. They can set up special goals by achieving and maintaining high user ratings, KPLs and positive feedback, which is an essential aspect of output control.

In other hands, tracking the number of updates released within a specified timeframe and the inclusion of new features could also be measured as indicators of their performance. The Soloop team can regularly upgrade the software and optimize the user experience based on KPIs data and user feedback. By tracking and analyzing data from each updated version and assessing whether the software has been improved and if specific goals have been achieved, the Soloop team can effectively evaluate and measure the impact of each iteration. Output control will be a valuable method to help the team continually improve the app and deliver a better user experience with each update.

Behavioural control

Behavioural control would be suitable for Soloop's projects. As a video editing app, it is essential to maintain consistency and quality for each video template. The Soloop team can establish clear guidelines, procedures, and standards for video creators to ensure that every user can easily create visually appealing and professional-looking videos.I suggest that the Soloop team conduct a quality review of video templates before releasing them. This will ensure that the templates do not contain inappropriate content or images, low-resolution video, plagiarize, and competitor trademarks. By screening out low-quality templates, Soloop can enhance the software's ability to provide users with high-quality content.

Additionally, behavioural control can be used to ensure timely release schedules for updates and adherence to project timelines. For example, the team can establish a bi-monthly iteration schedule for their software updates. They can set a minimum target for the number of updates and new features to be included in each version. This target can be determined based on a thorough understanding of user needs, market trends, and the competitive landscape. The team can prioritize and schedule projects based on their importance and duration, ensuring a rapid and responsive iteration process that meets user demands effectively. This iterative approach allows the team to maintain a competitive edge and stay agile , continuously improve the app, and deliver valuable updates to users in a timely manner.

Clan control

Clan control can be very appropriate for the Soloop team, whether it's for users or within the team. Since the app targets a wide range of users, fostering a positive and collaborative community within the app can be beneficial. By encouraging users to share their video creations, provide feedback, and support each other's creative efforts, Soloop can build a sense of belonging and engagement among its user base. Also, the Soloop team can invite users who are professionals in video editing to be one of our template creators. The creator can build out their own account to gain fans and likes by providing video templates to others. This type of control can be facilitated through social features, forums, and user communities within the app. A strong clan control approach can lead to increased user retention, as users feel connected to the Soloop platform and the larger community of video creators.

For clan control on internal teams, collaborative teamwork and a shared sense of purpose are crucial to maintaining a positive organizational culture within the team. They could encourage open communication and creative brainstorming sessions that allow team members to foster an environment where they collectively strive for app excellence. The Soloop team can work together to deliver the best possible video editing experience to Oppo users.
